Join us for Guided Hikes with Scientists
Learn the iNaturalist app; observe for the BRF BioBlitz
The scientist guided hikes to observe nature and living things (BioBlitzes) are the in-person components of BRF’s Spring Benefit. Also join us June 3rd for the virtual reception and interactive panel discussion which will report on the BioBlitz findings as well as examine the importance of biodiversity in our ecosystem and the impact of citizen science.
Get outside, learn about your environment, and contribute to science!
Guided Events:
Black Rock Forest: Saturday, May 15th – 8am to 11am (rain-date, May 16) REGISTER – BRF.
(Also in Central Park NYC: Saturday, May 22nd – 8am to 11am (rain-date, May 23) REGISTER –
NYC)
BRF scientists will walk with you and share observations about nature while guiding you to make your own as part of a BRF BioBlitz (observing living things – plants and birds). Groups will depart on the half hour and group size will be limited). For more information, visit Events | Black Rock Forest Consortium
What is the Black Rock Forest BioBlitz?
Our project is a small BioBlitz sample, using the iNaturalist app, that allows BRF Friends of the Forest to compare species diversity between Black Rock Forest and NYC all while actively engaging in citizen science by contributing to scientific data used globally.
BRF scientists will guide attendees to record their findings in iNaturalist. Observations and photos will be shared – for prizes – at the Virtual Reception and online.
