Black Rock Forest (BRF) is a non-profit organization as well as a consortium of 17+ member institutions formed in 1989 with a mission of advancing scientific understanding of the natural world through research, education, and conservation programs. BRF maintains a 3,920-acre forest, a biological field station and two award-winning green buildings with classroom and lab space in Cornwall, N.Y.
Connections between the educators and researchers from institutions such as Columbia University, American Museum of Natural History and CUNY fosters a rich opportunity for students to learn and experience the forest, such as using environmental datasets while practicing authentic field methods scientists use to collect their data, or staying overnight in a living classroom.
